The summer of 1967 was a special time in america for many reasons. for myself it was very special, as it was the first time i visited my grandmother siniva and my grandfather rolla in imperial beach, california. it was during this visit that i first learned how to surf, even though i had tried a couple times in daytona beach when my parents would rent us a board. in imperial beach, my grandmother's house was a 10 minute walk to just south of the pier and she allowed me to go there for a few hours before lunch time. i didn't have any money to rent a board of my own, but after getting to know some of the local kids around my same age, i was able to borrow a board here and there. the waves were much easier to catch than in florida and soon i was really hooked.

upon returning from california, i told my brother about my surfing experiences and said "let's get mom and dad to get us a board. he'd seen the "endless summer" and he was going over to cocoa or daytona beach as much as possible and agreed to the plan. That christmas a brand new red greg noll "duke kahanamoku" model was found in our garage after one of our famous "Scavenger hunt for presents".
thus began the birth of surfboards samoa after a long gestation period...
